Telecard, an Odessa-based company providing system projects in the areas of transport, telecommunications and energy, launched a pilot project for testing electronic payment system for Odessa public transport. The Ukrainian telecommunications operator Prosat provided data transmission channels based on the McWiLL® technology, developed by China’s Xinwei Group. The automated system is currently working in a test mode on one of the city routes.
“In place of the old-fashioned paper tickets, a system using a high-tech travel card is an up-today and popular technology for buying tickets around the world. The system is not only convenient for passengers, but also beneficial for carriers and the whole city, as it helps transport enterprises to increase profitability, improve quality of urban passenger transportation and optimize tariffs”, Sergei Yakovenko, the Director General of Prosat, said.
The commercial stage of the project starts in September this year. An electronic ticket system is planned to be launched in different cities across Ukraine.
Ticket prices will be affordable, from 2 to 3 hryvnias. Travel by electronic system is also provided for citizens entitled to benefits.
